LIBRARY CLOSURE: The Pleasanton Library is temporarily closed.

The City of Pleasanton is committed to protecting the health of its community and limiting the spread of COVID-19. To adhere to the Alameda County Health Department's order to shelter in place issued March 16, all City of Pleasanton offices are temporarily closed and city government meetings have been suspended. We will work to conduct essential business directly impacting health and safety. Please visit the city's COVID-19 site for the latest updates as well as a link to the Alameda County order.

The library is dedicated to supporting PUSD students with a variety of educational resources. From student library cards to online research & test prep, the library is here to help students succeed. Click here for more information.

We'll bring your holds to your car with Curbside Library Pickup. It's the contactless way to enjoy the library!

1. Place up to ten (10) holds in the web catalog

2. Wait for a confirmation email and/or text message telling you that your items are ready for pickup.

3. After you receive your confirmation message, select a pickup time slot from the Curbside Library Pickup event, occurring every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 1-6 p.m.

Click here for help reserving your time slot

As we are experiencing high hold volume, please allow seven (7) business days to receive a message that your items are ready for pickup. If you receive more messages stating more items are ready for pickup, we will bring all items to your car at the same time.

The Library facility is closed for now, but we are still here to help. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

How do I return materials when the library is closed?

The library book drop is now open. Located to the right of the main entrance, the external book drop is open to accept returned library and Link+ materials. Donated materials will not be accepted.

In an abundance of caution, returned library materials are being set aside and then cleared from accounts after seven (7) days. Thank you for your patience.

What happens to the items I had on hold?

We paused all prior holds during the closure period. You will now be able to pick up your holds via the Curbside Library Pickup procedure above.

While we understand this may delay holds for patrons still waiting for materials, our staff will be purchasing additional copies of popular items to shorten wait times.

I have a Link+ item on order, on hold or to return.

The Link+ service has been paused during the facility closure. You may return Link+ items to the book drop and we will make exceptions to Link+ fees due to unusual circumstances.

Are you still accepting book donations?

Out of an abundance of caution for public health and safety, we must decline any donations through the end of the year 2020. Thank you for your understanding.

What other library services are available while the building is closed?

The library offers digital resources, eBooks and streaming content for all ages and interests. Visit the library’s website and click on the “eBooks / Streaming / Research” tab on the left. Be sure to explore the new 2020 Summer Reading Game online reading challenge for a chance to earn prizes!

What if I need to get a library card?

Getting a new library card has never been easier! Visit the Library website to apply online for an eCard to access digital resources, streaming videos, eBooks and more!.

I think my library card is expired. How can I renew it?

Good news! The Library has renewed all expired library cards so community members can continue to access digital resources.

Can I still contact the library?

Absolutely! Even with the facility closure, phone lines are open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (excluding holidays), with library staff that would love to help you discover online resources, provide reading recommendations, assist with simple research and answer your questions.
